Sunday, 3rd November - Changeling Directed by Clint Eastwood, starring Angelina Jolie, Colm Feore, John Malkovich and Amy Ryan. Set in the 1920s, and based on real life events, this tells the story of a single mother who returns from work to find her nine-year-old son gone. Five months later a boy is found in Illinois who fits the description; he says hes her son. To fanfare and photos, the LAPD reunite mother and son, but she insists hes not her boy. The cops dismiss her as either a liar or hysterical. When she joins a minister in his public criticism of the police, they use government power to silence her. 2008, cert. 15, 114 mins. Friday, 15th November - The Tourist Directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie In this romantic comedy thriller, Elise sits next to an American tourist, Frank, on a train going to Venice. She has chosen him as a decoy, making believe that he is her lover who is wanted by police. Not only will they need to evade the police, but also the mobster whose money her lover stole. 2010, cert. 12A, 103 mins. Sunday, 1st December - M. Hulots Holiday A Jacques Tati film. Monsieur Hulot goes on a holiday to a seaside resort, but accidents and misunderstandings follow him wherever he goes - his intentions are good, but things always turn out catastrophically. 1953, cert. U, 114 mins. In French, but mostly without talking. Sunday, 15th December - Joyeux Noel Directed by Christian Carion, starring Diane Kruger, Benno Furmann, Guillaume Canet. On Christmas Eve 1914 numerous sections of the Western Front called an informal and unauthorized truce, where the various front-line soldiers of the conflict peacefully met each other in no mans land to share a precious pause in the carnage. This film dramatizes one such section as the French, Scottish and German sides partake in the unique event. 2005, cert. 12A, 116 mins. French, German and English. Sunday, 29th December In Bruges Directed by Martin McDonagh, starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. Hit men Ray and Ken are told by their boss to lie low in Bruges for up to two weeks following their latest hit, which resulted in the death of an innocent bystander. While they wait for further instructions, Ken takes in the sights of the medieval city, but the charms of Bruges are lost on Ray, who is despondent over the innocent death, especially as it was his first job. When their new instructions arrive, Ken isnt sure if he can carry out the new job, as he has gained a new appreciation of life from his stay in the fairytale Bruges. 2008, cert. 18, 107 mins.
