The Flyers fought extremely hard for one point today against the best team in the NHL, the Boston Bruins. The point ties the Flyers for the moment with 86 points with the Rangers for 2nd place in the Metropolitan Division. The Rangers play later tonight so it depends on what they do if the Flyers will stay in 2nd. After the Rangers play, the Flyers will still have 2 games in hand on the Rangers. The team played a fantastic first period with Lecavalier getting things started scoring 5 min into the game with his 400th career goal. Former Flyer Meszaros got the first goal for Boston 5 min. later. The battle continued with chances for both teams until there were 41 sec. left in the period when Kimmo Timonen put the Flyers on top. In the 2nd, the refs started to try to control the game and Chara worked his way for a nice goal screening Mason on a Boston powerplay. Bergeron put the Bruins ahead when he quickly through a shot at an unexpected place and time. The Flyers continued to push in the third racking up the shots and chances to tie the game up. They were even awarded a 5 on 3 that they could just not get control of in the Boston zone and did nothing on. With Mason pulled and 25 seconds left in the game, Lecavalier gets the goal and the point sending the game into OT. During the OT both teams had chances as both goalies made some great saves. The game went to a shootout where Giroux was the only scorer for the Flyers. Great game, great effort, got a point. Next game is in St. Louis, Tues. at 8 pm on NBCSN.
