The GOP swept to some pretty historic results not because of a bad map but because the Democratic Party has proven itself largely incapable of communicating effectively to the general population. The majority of Americans think that Climate Change is real yet the majority of the US Congress will now undertake legislative initiatives to forestall any and all significant efforts to address the issue. The majority of Americans think that the economy is broken but they re-elected the party most directly responsible for putting in place the rules and regulations that set-up the collapse and whose policies will only further widen the yawning gap between the uber-rich and everyone else. The majority of Americans think that funding education at appropriate levels is a high priority but across the country they voted for governors who deliberately undertook policy measures to cut funding for public education to unheard of and unwise levels. Unfortunately, not one Democratic candidate (or far too few to be more precise) would actually articulate in any coherent manager such important differences between the priorities and policies of the ruling parties. Its disgraceful and its not the maps but the party leaders fault. Barack Obama might not have done everything I would have liked him to do and his administration might be responsible for some reprehensible policies but his record and his platform offered a lot more hope to the American people than anything that the GOP proposed and no one ran with him.
