The Gaffer on the trip to the USA: It will be tough. When we went to the USA two summers ago, every game was hard and this time it will be no different. Pre-season is really important and its becoming more crucial every single year. For new players, it will help them integrate but, for everybody, it will be a case of putting the work in. Thats what will be needed ahead of the new season. Lambert believes matches against Dallas and Houston will provide his team with the perfect mental preparation ahead of the new term. Despite the friendly billing of the encounters, Lambert expects players on both those sides to be focused and dogged in their endeavours. He thinks that dedication and resolve will drive his own team on. He continued: In terms of their teams and what we might encounter in our games, you get hard graft always from American players. Theyre strong characters - for us, Brad is a great example of this. His enthusiasm is fantastic and Im sure a lot of the players well be up against will be similar in that respect. Lambert is fully focused on football but he accepts that the trip across the pond has brand-building importance too. He added: The Premier League is world-renowned and everywhere you go people know what its about. Theyre getting into it now in the USA, too, and its good for us to tap into that interest and to attract new fans to the club. Teams all around are trying to grow and expand their fanbase, whether thats into the USA, Asia or wherever. There are good players in these places and, with America doing well in the World Cup, interest in the game there is going to be huge in these summer months.
