The Government of the Gambia ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and Optional Protocol on Monday 1st July 2013. TANGO welcomes this development as it marks an important step in the respect, protection and fulfillment of the rights of citizens and other persons with disabilities in our country. In ensuring that the civil society plays its rightful role in the implementation and monitoring of this important instrument, TANGO and the Gambia Federation of the Disabled in partnership with SightSavers The Gambia is currently hosting a press conference on the convention and the ratification by the Gambia today Wednesday 24 July 2013 at the TANGO conference hall. TANGO is strongly supporting this initiative and calls on its members and partners to actively participate in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the the convention in the Gambia so that all persons with disability can enjoy all human rights.
