The Great Whisk(e)y Debate: Local establishments join forces to raise funds to help publish “The Funny Thing About Cancer” Having launched a series of humorous internet videos titled “The Funny Thing About Cancer”, Windsor comedian Josh Haddon is seeking to further find the bright side of stage 3 esophageal cancer by publishing a book on the topic. The Great Whisk(e)y Debate, a cocktail reception and tasting, takes place Saturday February 28, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. with proceeds going to Haddon’s campaign. Matt Jones (Beam Suntory’s Master Bourbon Ambassador of Canada), Dan Tulio (Canadian Club’s Master Canadian Whisky Ambassador) and Nicolas Villalon, the Master of The Macallan Ambassador (Canada), will take place in a debate about whiskey in order to educate the audience about the drink and its origins, all while taking shots (jokes) at one another about whose whiskey is best. Tish Harcus, Brand Ambassador for Canadian Club, will also be in attendance to speak about Women in Whiskey. Additionally, Nicolas Villalon will be conducting a Spirited Dinner centred on scotch on January 21 at The Willistead. $45 includes a four course seated tasting menu. Cancer, which takes far too many of those closest to us, is inherently a negative topic for many, but Haddon launched an INDIEGOGO campaign to both publish “The Funny Thing About Cancer” - centred around helping newly diagnosed cancer patients come to terms with the disease - as well help him afford the high cost of treatment. “1000s of emails poured in telling me I should write a book to help newly diagnosed cancer patients,” says Haddon on the INDIEGOGO campaign page. While Haddon will not be at the event - he will be undergoing surgery two days prior on February 26 - his presence will be onsite in the form of a unique statue crafted and donated by MacDonald Automotive. In addition, a representative from the Comedy Quarry will be onsite as emcee. The event is sponsored by Chanosos, South Detroit, Willistead Restaurant, Snack B-B-Q and Beam Suntory (Canadian Club, Jim Beam, Pinnacle Vodka).
