The Honor Flight Network is hosting 918 of America’s Greatest Generation between now and October 6, 2013 and they have been turned away from the nation’s monuments and memorials due to the government shutdown. This organization, which brings World War II veterans to DC to experience the monuments and memorials that honor their fellow veterans and fallen brothers and sisters, welcomed 90 veterans on October 1, and now can only take them to Arlington National Cemetery, the only national park open for business. America’s political leaders must act to make sure that these Vets are not denied access to the symbols of the Freedom that they fought for, and for which their comrades in arms died. It is imperative that Speaker of the House John Boehner, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell find a way to temporarily fund the opening of the nation’s national parks in Washington DC to allow these veterans to be honored.
