The Huttons Shearwater Charitable Trust has recently taken on four new trustees - Patrick Aldwell (Christchurch), Ailsa Howard (Kaikoura), Sabrina Luecht (Christchurch) and Jody Weir (Kaikoura). An orientation weekend was held recently for new and existing trustees. Part of this exercise included a helicopter flight into the Kowhai Shearwater colony, followed by a fly over of the Shearwater Stream colony on Nicky McArthurs Puhi Peaks Station (the only privately owned colony). Everybody came back with an enormous smile of their faces and an increased appreciation of the logistics and management challenges within these areas, to keep the shearwaters breeding successfully. Watch this space and roll on 2015 - its going to be a great year!
