The Ice Bucket challenge, in its different variations, has been a hot topic at several nonprofits. Mainly because of its wild success in raising the profile of ALS.org, and in raising money. I dont think it can really be duplicated, although Im sure well be seeing variants. The most recent things I read said ALS contributions this year are 40 million plus, vs 2 million last year. Regardless what one thinks of it, hard to argue with success. Or to argue with getting people to think, even if briefly, about being more philanthropic. My personal take was not to do anything with ice or buckets, and not to challenge anyone (I know, I know, Im breaking the chain). But I did ship some money to SIM, specifying it go to Ebola relief in Liberia.
