The Illinois State Police responded to an accident on Interstate 64 near mile marker 38 on Tuesday afternoon. According to their report, it occurred in the westbound lanes as vehicles were approaching Illinois Department of Transportation vehicles patching the highway. A pick-up truck driven by 70-year old Jerry Hoffee of East Saint Louis allegedly did not stop in time to avoid hitting a dump truck that had the arrow for traffic to merge left, as it was serving as a buffer between traffic and the workers in front. The 49-year old male from Addieville in the dump truck was not injured and neither was Hoffee, as both were wearing their seatbelt. Hoffee was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
