The Imitation Game, Pride nominated for BAFTA awards Alan Turing biopic received nine nominations 09 JANUARY 2015 The Imitation Game is nominated to win Best Film at the BAFTA awards, it was announced today (9 January). The movie follows the life of Alan Turing, a gay icon and war hero who was credited with cracking what was previously thought to be the unbreakable code of the German WWII Enigma machine. Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Turing, is a contender for Leading Actor award while Keira Knightley has been nominated for Supporting Actress for her portrayal of the mathmaticians wife Joan Clarke. Having already received the Ensemble Performance award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival awards, the film is up for Best British Film, Adapted Screenplay, Editing, Production Design, Costume Design and Sound. Accepting the award at Palm Springs, Cumberbatch said: ‘It’s something that brought us all to this story, this unique, extraordinary, passionate, dividend, single minded and incredibly beautiful soul of a human being. ‘A mind and a body as well. A marathon runner of Olympic standards, as well as a gay man, to make him better known, To bring him to an audience he deserved in his lifetime and beyond’ The film, which is being seen as an Oscar front-runner, has also been nominated for five Golden Globe awards. Other movies up for BAFTAs include Pride, which has been listed for the Outstanding Debut By A British Writer, Director Or Producer category and Best British Film. BAFTA, the British Oscars, will be hosted by Stephen Fry on 8 February in London.
