The InterNations Weekly 1. InterNations Expat Magazine Preparing for Your Move Abroad Once you’ve made the decision to move abroad, knowing what steps to take next can seem overwhelming! With so much to do, you should get started as soon as possible. Most importantly, you need to make sure you have a valid passport and apply for your visa and work permit well in advance. After you’ve got the ball rolling on your visa, you can start organizing your finances, deciding whether to rent or sell your home, and figuring out what things you want to take with you, what will go into storage, and what you need to sell or give away. In our article: Prepare for Moving Abroad, you’ll find more tips to make sure that your move abroad goes off without a hitch. Please note that our Expat Magazine is usually accessible for Albatross Members only. However, due to popular demand this article will be available to read for all InterNations members until March 20th. Don’t forget that you still need to log into your InterNations account in order to read the article. 2. InterNations in the Press The New Expat Members of our Local Community in Guadalajara were interviewed for an article in The Guadalajara Reporter at their end-of-the-year brunch. Expats who join this Community will be welcomed by a vibrant and international group with over 2,000 members. The results of a recent survey of InterNations members were featured in The Telegraph last week. In the survey, established expats and would-be expats were asked about their main motivation for moving abroad. The survey showed a trend towards expats moving abroad chiefly for reasons of enjoyment rather than employment. On January 19th, members of our Zurich Community enjoyed an elegant Sunday brunch at Schloss Sihlberg. The event photos, taken by Ron Clark, were compiled into a video by Marco di Giano and posted on our InterNations Events around the World playlist on YouTube. 3. Activities and Events Around the World Weekend Getaways and St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations The Shanghai Weekend Trip Group is heading out for a Weekend Bamboo Village and Jacuzzi Getaway at a resort tucked away in a green valley where we will hike among secluded rivers and waterfalls. In the evening we will have a BBQ dinner party and enjoy the hot springs the following morning. Join other expats for a Treasure Hunt in Yafo with the Tel Aviv City Trotters Group. We will split into small groups and solve clues related to the history and culture of the old port of Yafo to lead us to the treasure! The Muscat Life’s a Beach Group is heading out to experience Al Dimaniyat under the stars and see the iridescent glow of the coral reef. We will snorkel in the clear waters during the day and gather around the campfire to relax in the evening. Join the Copenhagen Contemporary Art Group for some fusion music in the Copenhagen Synagogue. The quartet Avital meets Avital will combine the sounds of jazz, classical, and oriental music in this spring concert. Our Strasbourg Community will be celebrating Ladies’ Day in the sophisticated rooms of a renovated 19th-century castle. The castle parlor’s elegant British interior design will create the perfect convivial atmosphere for this event marking International Women’s Day on March 8th. So come join us and be sure to come elegantly dressed. Our Community in Stavanger will be hosting a St. Patrick’s Day Party at an Irish venue in town on March 14th. As attendance at our Stavanger events has been steadily growing over the past year, you can now meet more international friends than ever before. So come out and support our growing Community! Our Community in Bangalore will also be celebrating with a St. Patrick’s Day Party on March 17th.
