The International Buddhist Park Ponpisai, Nongkhai Thailand had been Buddhist country for a long time. Thailand was nominated by the International Buddhist Conference, on Vesak Day B.E. 2548, to be the World Center for Buddhist. Thailand will continue to play a major role in Buddhism and needs to expand its activities internationally to fulfill this task. To cope with this important task, there are still huge demands for places and personnel. It is fortunate for all people, that the International Buddhist Park was established, when needed, in Nongkhai province. This Park will be offered as focal point for all Buddhist. It will be a place where ethics and virtue will be taught to all Thais. The International Buddhist from around the world, more than the thousand people at a time. There are several reasons why Nognkhai was chosen for the location of the International Buddhist Park. First – Nongkhai has long been the place of many Buddhist legends. The most significant is the supernatural phenomenal called the “Naga Fireball.” These Fireballs occur annually and they attract the attention of tourists from around the world. They come to satisfy their curiosity and their scientific theories. Second – Nongkhai province was chosen by “Modern Maturity Magazine May-June 2001” the 7th most livable city in the world, base on twelve criteria. The twelve are weather, living cost, local culture, healthcare service, housing, transportation, hospitalization, environment, recreation, safety, political stability and modern technology. Nongkhai is also a gateway to several countries on the Mekong River. The Mekong is a “well of civilization” for countries such as Tibet, Burma, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Building the International Buddhist Park on the bank of the Mekong River helps to strengthen the bonds amongst Buddhist living along the bank. The river may separate us geographically, but it will not divide the faith we have in our Lord Buddha. ibppn.org/?page_id=42
