The Last WW 1 Battle Fought in the Trenches Stephen Sauve, of Port McNicoll, serving with the 87th Battalion ‘Canadian Grenadier Guards’ found himself found himself dug in near Bourlon Wood, south of the Arra-Cambrai Road on October 30, 1918. During the fierce fighting that day, the enemy spent its force in vain. Unfortunately many Canadians, including Stephen, fell.
