The Life We Live - Saturday - June 15, 2013 “Who Are You, Lord? – Part 13 God’s Mercy (1) Daniel 4:27 (NASB) “Therefore, O king, may my advice be pleasing to you: break away now from your sins by doing righteousness and from your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor, in case there may be a prolonging of your prosperity.” Daniel was called in by king Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon to interpret a dream he had. The king had grown very powerful and he was very proud of his accomplishments. The dream warned Nebuchadnezzar that he was about to lose his power; that he would end up living like the beasts in the field, so Daniel’s advice to the king was for him to change his view of himself and the way in which he ruled; to rule righteously and to show mercy to the poor. But the king did not learn from the dream. One year later, as he was bragging over his power and majesty, the warning in the dream was fulfilled: “Immediately the word concerning Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled; and he was driven away from mankind and began eating grass like cattle, and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair had grown like eagles’ feathers and his nails like birds’ claws.” Daniel 4:33 (NASB) Everything was taken from him. No doubt he was very miserable and remained that way for a long time.
