The Loyalty of Honey Bees - In a previous post I noted that I liked honey bees. There is much to be admired in their behavior. I remember waking one summer morning to see a large swarm of them hanging on a small apple tree in my back yard. They were fascinating to watch but having small children at the time caused me some concern. I called a fellow teacher who was a bee keeper and he brought all of his equipment to my house to remove them and take them to the hives on his property. I thought he would be better equipped but the gloves, face protection, and cardboard barrel were sufficient for him to remove the bees. He told me that all he needed to do was make sure the queen bee was in the barrel and the rest would stay with her. After the bee keeper was gone, I noticed that eight or ten bees were left behind. I thought they would simply wander off never to be seen again. I was wrong. Those bees stayed at that location where they had last been with the queen and the rest of the swarm. Every day for several days I would check around the tree to see what they were doing. They never left as one by one they died. Their loyalty to their queen, their hive, and their instincts was undeniable and uncompromising. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we saw the same measure of loyalty and dedication toward our friends and family? Wouldn’t it be great if we saw a greater loyalty toward our country? And most of all wouldn’t it be life changing if we all demonstrated a greater loyalty and dedication to our Lord and King?
