The Medical Staff of North Adams Regional Hospital has donated approximately $100,000 to Ecu-Health Care, the health care access organization in North Adams, Massachusetts. The donation was made on Tuesday, April 1, by members of the Medical Staff including Fernando Ponce, MD, Jeffrey Bath, MD, and Jonathan Cluett, MD, to Charles “Chip” Joffe-Halpern and the executive team of Ecu-Health Care. “The Medical Staff shares our community’s sadness at the loss of hospital services in northern Berkshire County,” said Dr. Bath. “The medical staff wants to honor its commitment to the community and our patients. Making this donation should go a long way to ensure continued access to healthcare for our patients.” Joffe-Halpern expressed appreciation to the physicians and acknowledged the dedication of the providers for delivering quality care to the community, regardless of ability to pay. “This very generous donation is an affirmation of the work of Ecu-Health Care and the critical role we have performed in the community for the last 19 years. In our role as the primary access and enrollment site for all public health insurance programs, we have become an integral part of the medical community. But like every other non-profit organization, funding is always a challenging task. During this time of transition these funds will help sustain Ecu-Health Care’s services and we look forward to making sure the uninsured residents of North Berkshire continue to have access to affordable health coverage. We should not forget that it was the medical community who started our organization in 1995. Words can’t express our deep appreciation for this gift.”
