The NGO world in Kenya is very interesting. We have an organisation called Haki Africa, (the one that just condemned the killing of Sheik Makaburi). Tomorrow the same organisation will be calling itself Makaburi Rights Forum (MRF), same faces, no physical office anywhere. Next week something else will happen and an organisation called World Rights Initiative or something like Human Rights Africa will call a press conference. Same faces. Two weeks later, an issue will arise about women and the organisation will mutate into Gender Africa (GA), with very colourful letterheads. Next month there will be draught in Turkana and an organisation calling itself Institute on Hunger in Africa (IHA) will issue a press statement. Same faces, same people. That is why many NGOs have same same people. The most interesting thing is that the organisations are formed in the morning and by noon they are calling impromptu press conferences, fooling the journalists who buy the crap hook, line and sinkers. When I realised this, I stopped covering such press conferences.
