The NIH Office of Intramural Training & Education (OITE) is pleased to send you this update on training opportunities in the NIH Intramural Research Program. We invite you to explore our training opportunities for students at all educational levels and hope you will also take advantage of our online career resources including videocasts on the academic and industry job search process, non-bench careers, the career exploration process and graduate/professional school application and interview processes. We also have a new You Tube channel with helpful resources including a new video featuring interviews with graduate program directors with tips on applying and interviewing, finding supportive research mentors, and a video highlighting experiences from recent graduate and professional school students on thriving during this fun, but challenging time. You can subscribe to the OITE You Tube channel at: https://youtube/channel/UCQQHo_QnuBxdfcsRy4INGGw Many of our programs are accepting applications now or will begin accepting applications in early in January. In addition to outstanding full-time biomedical research opportunities, we provide significant career development opportunities for all trainees, including workshops, courses, journal clubs and access to the OITE Career Services Center. We invite you to join our diverse community of over 5000 trainees for great science and outstanding career development resources. The NIH Summer Internship Program (SIP) accepts high school, undergraduate, graduate and professional (medical/dental/pharmacy/nursing, etc.) school students in biomedical, social science, behavioral, and computational fields. Be sure to watch our YouTube video and read the tips for applicants before starting your application. The SIP application is now live; the deadline in March 1, but students who apply early have a strong advantage. If you are currently a community college student, the NIH Community College Summer Enrichment Program (CCSEP) is for you. CCSEP, part of the NIH Summer Internship Program (SIP), provides students an opportunity to participate in special group activities to prepare for academic transitions and to explore careers in biomedical research and healthcare. Note that the CCSEP deadline is much earlier than the SIP deadline: January 15, 2015! New this year, we are pleased to announce the 2015 Amgen Scholars Program at NIH. The Amgen Scholars Program at NIH (AMGEN) is a partnership between the Amgen Foundation, the Foundation for the NIH, and OITE. AMGEN is a residential, summer internship program for undergraduate students (rising college juniors or seniors) committed to pursuing PhD and combined degree programs (MD/PhD, DDS/PhD) in the sciences. Students with experience in health disparities and a keen interest in learning more about their biological, environmental, social, and genetic causes are especially encouraged to apply. NIH welcomes applications from students in all science disciplines and encourages students from diverse backgrounds to apply. Note that the AMGEN deadline is February 2, 2015. If you are a college student looking for college scholarships, check out the Undergraduate Scholarship Program (UGSP). Although applications won’t be accepted until January 2, 2015, the program has several important eligibility requirements, so check out the Web site and contact us now with your questions. If you are an undergraduate looking to develop additional research skills during a gap year (or two) check out the NIH Postbac Program and our NIH Academy, a supplement to the NIH postbac program focused on health disparities. Applications are accepted year round, but you should apply in January/February if you wish to start this summer or fall. NIH postbacs are highly recruited by graduate and professional schools and we provide significant advice and assistance through the decision-making, application, and interview process. The NIH intramural program also welcomes graduate students through the Graduate Partnerships Program (GPP) and postdoctoral fellows. Current postdoc openings are listed online. Please note that scholars of all nationalities are eligible to come to the NIH as graduate students and postdocs. In addition to the many archived science career development videos, we will be videocasting a number of workshops live from the Bethesda campus during the spring semester. When videos are available, we will update our page as soon as possible. You can also register as a guest for our up-coming events if you wish to receive the slides from the presentation.
