The Nashville City Council met briefly for the 2nd regular meeting of the month last night. It was announced that curbside leaf pickup begins on Monday and will be every Monday and Friday only through January 12th, except for any holidays. The Lion’s Club asked for the streets around the Nashville Community Center to be closed for their Halloween Parade on Sunday, October 26th from 2:30 until 3:45 PM on that day. The parade route begins on Washington Street, goes up to Doelling Memorial Street, then over to the west to Broadway, where it goes south and then into the Center’s parking lot. This was approved by the Council. Street Department Supervisor Richard Schuette told the Council that Morton Salt can’t fill the City’s order for the winter, but it may be okay as he says they will not be able to provide for the sales quote for bulk road salt, as their inventories and production supply are down from last year’s severe winter, which has depleted supplies from across the country and they cannot take on any additional business. He says that the City’s salt bin is 90 to 95 percent full, so there is enough to go pretty deep into the winter, unless it is a terrible winter. He will contact them back to try to lock in something, as they have been a costumer for many years. The Treasurer’s report for September was approved. Utilities Supervisor Blaine Middleton says fire hydrant flushing has been completed. The new Street Department shed is coming along as the workers were out in force this week.
