† The Pain Filter † One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us! But the other rebuked him, saying, Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? Luke 23:39–40 ESV Three men were crucified together. The One in the center was Jesus, the son of God, with a criminal on His left and right. One of the criminals ridiculed Jesus while the other defended Him. What was the difference between the two criminals? Both were caught, convicted, and crucified. Here is one difference: one saw himself as redeemable and the other did not. Even though the Son of God was a few feet away and would have forgiven him, he could not see it through his pain-filled life. Each time I have been hurt in my life, or hurt someone else, I grew a little more calloused. It became a little harder to believe that God cared about me. It is important that you realize that whatever you have done, you can be redeemed. You are the one that makes the difference, and makes the choice. One thief was saved, one was not. It was their decision. Do not let the pain filter keep you from seeing the open arms of Jesus. You are worth redeeming. Jesus loves you so much that He traded His life for yours! :)
