The Public Protector has found that President Zuma has breached the Executive Members Ethics Code - this must be a serious violation for any morally upright leader. However, it is not the first time he breaks the ethics code. President Zuma violated the code when he failed to declare his material benefits from Schabir and his lawyer was found by the court to have manufactured an agreement after the fact. The court found his benefits to have been undue and criminal - Schabir was sentenced to 15 years. Parliament did nothing to President Zuma. In April 2010, the Public Protector found a tardy President Zuma to have been in breach of section 5.2 of the code for failure to declare his interests on time. Madonsela said President Zuma was not the only one and there was a systemic pattern of non-compliance by significant number of ministers. The President declared his interest after an alarm was raised by the press eight months later. The presidency undertook to rectify the situation. One the Nkandla scandal, she said: “It is also not unreasonable to expect that when news broke in December 2009 of alleged exorbitant amounts…[it was] required of President Zuma to take reasonable steps to order an immediate enquiry into the situation and immediate correction of any irregularities and excesses. “His failure to act in protection of state resources constitutes a violation of … executive ethics code and accordingly amounts to conduct that is inconsistent with his office as a member of Cabinet.” So this is what is it, dont hold your breath ladies and gentlemen...
