The Roselands and Bridgemere Neighbourhood Panel are currently pushing for a pedestrian crossing on Whitley Road. Whitley Road is currently the border between Devonshire and St Anthonys wards. David Tutt has expressed his support for a crossing in his role as county councillor for St Anthonys, and we hear that Steve Wallis also supports the idea as county councillor for Devonshire. Whitley Road is the A2021 so ESCC are reluctant to do much to slow down traffic flow, however as part of the LSTF (local sustainable transport fund) bid for cycle routes in town, there is scope for a possible pedestrian crossing, and we want to take advantage of that window of opportunity. There are several traffic lights on the route, but none have a pedestrian phase to allow safe crossing. We may be able to secure a pedestrian phase at one set of these lights and that would help residents of the area, and also provide safer access to and from Roselands and Stafford Schools, as well as Poohs Nursery. Well be pushing this on the neighbourhood panels group going forward, so if there are any residents, businesses or parents of children at the schools who want to know more, or get involved, please join us. https://facebook/groups/321017404712199/
