The Ryk is one of the first [and favorite] people i ever met in the National slam scene. I was competing nationally for the 1st time at the National Poetry Slam in St. Louis in 2004. I knew ALMOST no one. But Ryk McIntyre befriended me there. He also called me at the Java Hut Cafe when he was running late to a Feature i had been booked for by Uncle Bill Macmillan. Ryk actually CALLED the coffee shop to tell me he was running late and he was sorry. If anyone ever questions how the Slam Poetry scene is a FAMILY... these two events were proof poetic.
