he McVean Farm Harvest Celebration & Fundraiser - we had a blast; celebrating with our farming family at Mcvean Farm \ Afri-Can FoodBasket represent with framers and members of Torontos Truths & Rights (Nata Keyboard/vocal, Xola vocal & Ras Ovid lead vocal. The Afri-Can FoodBasket is grateful for the experience of this shared learning with all the farmers and farms that have passed through the gates of Mcvean Farm these past 7 years. AFB was enlightened to be engaged with a multicultural farm experience and engage a new generation of entrepreneurial ecological farmers in urban Ontario. We were glad to have been encouraged to offer members of the African Canadian community in Toronto & Brampton through our Ujamaa Farm Program to explore their farm dreams and help prospective farmers assess and plan their next steps into agriculture. Ujamaa Farmers were connected to other new farmers, receive training, resources and mentors as well as land, assets and peers that help them to not only get their farm businesses off the ground, but to experience farm life, grow and produce food; & sell food. Thank you Christie and the FarmStart crew for the partnership these past 7 years of growing farms and cultivating new farmers. At the same time creating a new foodscape in Ontario changing the culture of food and encouraging ecological farming system in this province. peace At our annual McVean Farm Celebration Fundraiser, we have something for everyone – families, groups of friends, solo adventurers, keen cyclists, experienced and beginner farmers, gardeners, food lovers, market customers, and our supporters. Bring picnic blankets, sun hats, kites, and your appetites – and enjoy the farm! Featuring: •live music featuring Samba Elégua and members of Truths & Rights - featuring Hulan Pierre, & others •tours of the diverse small farms on site •local organic food prepared picnic style •organic wine and beer samplings •kids’ activities & face painting •a visit from Mayor Susan Fennell •McVean Farmers Marketplace •wild edibles tour and more....
