The Seanad, “do we need it” is the question on every bodies lips as we approach the referendum. Perhaps the question you really should be asking is “Why does Enda want it gone” and “Do I trust this man”.. Me personally I wouldn’t let him stand behind me at an ATM , I honestly think I’d prefer some big guy in a balaclava with a knife in his hands at least with him I would know where I stand. The Seanad is by no means worth saving in its present form, however if we reform it and make the changes necessary to see it perform its duties as it was intended by our forefathers then we could have a very effective and fair watchdog of the government. It wont take drastic laws and millions of pounds to do this in fact a few simple law changes and hey presto we have an effective Seanad. The real question is why does Enda want it gone. Because even in its present form the Seanad holds power of Endas future laws and it is capable of at the very least holding up a bill or law before it goes to Michael D Higgins our president to be signed into law. Whatever Enda and his friends in Europe have planned for us must be pretty shocking if he wants the only watchdog left in this country put down before he initiates his plan. For me if Enda Kenny is saying Yes then Im saying no, I simply do not trust Enda “Fagan” kenny. We want the Seanad reformed so it works as it was intended to work. “Don’t take down the fire escape just because you have never had a fire” vote No and make sure you vote otherwise yes will win
