The Slipknot case. Like many people, as for Nirvana, at first I liked Slipknot when they appeared in 1999, then hated them for a long time... and now I can appreciate the whole of their achievement. A professional career than spans over 15 years... and counting. Now, I do enjoy some of their usually straight to the point songwriting. Just like Nirvana, or Nine Inch Nails, they are a genuine phenomenon to which a generation can identify ... and find some kind of comfort net at the bottom of a kind of sorry existence. Misfits, with destructive, self destructive or suicidal tendencies... driven to extremes in this age of omnipresent shallowness and violence. Much like the appeal that a horror movie can have for many people, a certain taste for the morbid in an artistic form is in fact a very sane reaction to an insane environment. A safety net if you will...
