The Suburban Crime Prevention Grants provides a total of $250,000 each year for small businesses and community groups across Brisbane to apply for grants of up to $10,000 to assist in reducing crime and increasing safety in their business precinct. A range of projects can be funded under the Suburban Crime Prevention Grant. Some examples of eligible projects include and are not limited to: * graffiti prevention, removal and management strategies * improved lighting external to the business * security alarms in public accessible areas * community safety signage and way-finding information in public accessible areas * crime prevention or community safety education and awareness strategies * development and implementation of safety action plans or safety audits for a business precinct and * communication technologies between businesses that assist in monitoring and managing safety in a precinct * installation of self-managed and monitored CCTV camera systems in public area of a business or business precinct. Note: professional advice should be sought for selecting the most suitable CCTV cameras to provide a security benefit The 2013/14 grant is now open for applicants and will close on 25 November 2013. This grant will allow local businesses, not for profit community groups and sporting clubs to apply for funds to implement safety and security measures such as improved lighting, way-finding signage, effective anti-graffiti management and installation of CCTV cameras for precinct based initiatives. Individual grants range from $1,000 to $10,000 with Council providing 80 per cent of the funding needed for the project and the remainder to be provided by applicants.
