The Swanson/Salkeld/Cumbee annual family weekend ski trip is always a highly anticipated mini vacation in January. Unfortunately this year Haley & Jake where not able to join us due to scheduling conflicts. Jakes conflict was the Chili Bowl and Haleys was the start of a new semester at Point Loma. Pretty decent excuses I guess. So that left Michele and I to represent the Swanson clan on our own. All expectations where that I would get too crazy and bust myself up. Well guess what, I am sitting in a Utah hospital but its not me thats busted up. You guessed it, its Michele. She got to test out the Brianhead emergency response ski patrol team. She also got to ride in that cool sled down the hill too. The only thing missing was the Saint Bernard dog with the flask of Wiskey. With the help of our friends Shawn & Kerry Salkeld we decided it was faster and better for us to transport her to the Cedar City Valley View Medical Center in Shawns truck. A hour later (4PM) she was in the ER getting X Rays and CT scans. Conclusion was a broken Pelvis in 3 areas. She spent last night in her own private room and is doing well. Doc says no surgery is required but she is looking at least 2 days in the hospital and about two weeks before she is walking without a walker. So the question, how did it happen? Well lets say it wasnt anything spectacular. After skiing most all day with no crashes, boring right, our whole group met up to hit a mellow slope together. As we where on the lift going to the top the lift slowed down because someone fell getting on or off it. We got to the top with it going super slow. Michele and I pushed off. Just then the lift sped up to full speed and basically did a Roundhouse sweep of Michele. A little flip with a twist and splat. She lays on the ground speaking in tongues. LOL. Even Michele wishes it was a more exciting story then that. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. She is back online now with her phone. Ill post any new news here on this FB thread. Thx cs
