The Thin Blue Line (A Career of Honor) by SGT Deuntay Diggs Some say it’s the biggest gang in the land. Have you heard? It’s the police, the pigs, they don’t have honor, they do not understand. The cops are a force that protect themselves, as they make their wicked plans; to kill the innocent, and violate the minorities’ rights. Who among us is going to put up a fight? Who is going to challenge this dishonorable institution? Who is going to march in the streets, break the law, and scream they want them all dead until someone who is unstable answers that plea? Someone who does not have the ability to look past the rhetoric and respond accordingly. The Thin Blue Line. There is blood on both sides’ hands. There is blood on both sides’ hands today! While everyone is yelling with emotion, because they know that their position is right. No one is listening and that’s how race baiters gather their might. Teach your children while you yet still have the opportunity, to have respect for all people, their property, and life. This may keep them from enduring a bad experience with a cop. Their day in court will come, and then they can fight. The Thin Blue Line. There are men and women in the noble position of law enforcement who are dishonorable. Just like all professions these men and women are a disgrace to their families, their communities, and the thin blue line. Though few in numbers they seem to get all the attention I have struck a correlation! Minorities are killing each other at an alarming rate, yet I can’t think of a march or a rally cry to date. Slogans like- Hands up don’t shoot, I can’t Breath, and Black Lives Matter ring out. In response to speculation of racially motivated actions by cops. Yet no specific facts have been brought up. Oh wait it was a white man who killed a black man that’s proof enough. Is what some say, I cannot imagine living life this way. The Thin Blue Line. Holiday’s, birthdays, and special events men and women in blue give up quite a bit. To not know as you leave the house if it will be the last time you see your loved ones is a huge weight to bare. A weight the men and women in law enforcement have chosen to carry to ensure our communities are safe, and that life is somewhat fair. Police Officers do not do it for the money or the fame. To be cussed at, spit on, and have your family threatened is only a few pains. It is not uncommon to hear a police officer say- if I do not answer the call to serve the people of my community, then who will? It is this answer of selfless service that is overlooked at a time such as this, in a chaotic world where public judgment is so swift. An emotional response to any situation will paint you in a corner whether the color is blue, black, white, or brown we all need each other. The Thin Blue Line. This poem is in dedication to the Men and Women who paid the ultimate sacrifice. May God bless your families, and keep his guardian angels around them in their time of grief.
