The True Leader Read Jeremiah 25:1 through 27:22 Jack had stayed up late to watch the election results, but he knew even before the polls closed that he would not like the outcome. His candidate lost. Jack felt ill at the thought of living for years under the political agenda of someone who stood against all he believed in. How could God have allowed this to happen? “With my great power and outstretched arm I made the earth and its people and the animals that are on it, and I give it to anyone I please. Now I will give all your countries into the hands of my servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; I will make even the wild animals subject to him” (Jeremiah 27:5–6). Almighty God is the One who spoke the universe into existence. He directs the hearts of kings (and other political figures). Nothing happens outside of His knowledge and His Sovereignty. We may be discouraged at the outcome of an election, a judicial ruling, or even the passage of legislation, but God is not surprised or discouraged. We can relax knowing that no matter who is leading the country, God is still in control. Prayer Suggestion: Ask God to guide your political leaders. Quicklook: Jeremiah 27:1–11
