The US Forest Service needs to fund a fleet of these aircraft. Large planes put more agent on fires faster and more efficiently, effectively and economically but even more importantly; much more safely. Less birds in the air are controled easier. Less flights are statistically safer. More agent applied, faster extinguishment, lower loss of resources. The good ole boy network of tanker pilots, a la the great film "Always", those days are sadly past history. Those men and women were heros and an intrical part of the history of saving forests, homes and lifes. We now have smart phones which are more powerful than the computers in the first space vehicles and ICBMs. It is high time we update how we preserve wildland and wilderness areas so they will last for generations to come.
