The USAT Southeast Regional Council asks that you vote in the national election for our board representative and toward the regional council candidates. The Council supports the incumbent, Mike Wien. Please take a moment to read this important message from Mike: Subject: Don’t let the Professional Athletes Steal the USAT Election! A Letter from Mike Wien, USAT Board of Directors, Southeast Region Dear Fellow Age Group Athlete, As your USAT SE Region Board of Directors Representative, I am asking for your support to return and best represent your interests. I am running against Craig Evans, an elite (professional) athlete. I am proud to say I have received the endorsement of the Southeast Region Council members, as they understand what is at stake here. Do you want a Board of Directors for USAT run by professional athletes who could be looking out more for the interests of the 400 or so elites in USAT? Or, do you feel it is more important that the 145,000+ Age Group athletes - like yourself - have a strong voice in how USAT is run? I know I feel strongly about the latter! It is unprecedented to have any elites running for the regional board seats historically held by age groupers, race directors and coaches. They are supposed to run for the three board seats mandated by the bylaws for the elites. If Craig and other elites running should win, they along with the mandated elite seats would hold six out of the 12 board seats; thus, gaining control of 50% of the Board. Here is what Robert “Vigo” Vigorito, a respected race director (Eagleman), Coach and Mid-Atlantic Regional Council chair wrote about this situation. “This move is unprecedented and pits the entire structure, future and decision making process of USAT at great risk. If elected, Elites will gain control of the voting bloc of the National Board.” I have been honored to be your representative this year. My business background - coupled with my unwavering passion for our sport and growing our sport - has made me a valuable contributor to the Board. I have consistently worked to support our Age Group athletes and our Youth; and, also, have supported our Elite High Performance Program numerous times. I want to see USA on the podium in the Olympics!
