The VP is playing a reckless game of class wars, that of the rich - TopicsExpress

The VP is playing a reckless game of class wars, that of the rich versus the poor. More than once, he presented his case to people, especially to the masa, as the tyranny of the fair-skinned rich against the oppressed dark-skinned poor. Again and again, he points an accusing finger to “Oplan Stop Nognog 2016” as a plot by the rich elite to stop someone rising from the ranks of the poor to become the leader of this country. But isn’t it that the very same person who raised that conspiracy theory, UNA spokesman JV Bautista, himself admitted that Oplan Nognog is their own creation based only on their conjectures, suspicions and hearsays from “friends” from the other side? Either the VP is having a difficult time disassociating from a lie that they have made up, or he has become too thick-faced as to stop peddling one lie after another. As they say, “pinangatawanan na.” From what we have seen so far, there is an elaborate web of corporate and legal layers of ownership to properties and interests attributed to the Binay family. Note also that the same people, who are known friends and associates of the Binays, are in this intricate web and are the same people who figure prominently in major multi-million projects in the city of Makati. Even if documents would not show ownership by the Binays, this close association with contractors of the city government is already a major conflict of interests. If this is the kind of governance in Makati that the VP wants to do for the entire country when he becomes president, it will be pre-1986 era all over again. By all indications, it may even surpass the megalomania of the Marcoses. It is wrong to assume that his followers believe he is innocent of the charges against him and his family. The Filipino is more intelligent than we presume them to be. At the very least, he is being tolerated by people on the belief that all politicians are corrupt anyway. Jojo Binay will not and will not be able to refute the charges against him, so he will exploit the psychology of the Filipino electorate instead and make himself appear as the underdog champion of the masa. As in 1986, the only way to prevent a Binay presidency in 2016 is to find an alternative who is the complete opposite – not someone from the same basket of rotten tomatoes. Admittedly, this is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Like in the maze garden of Hacienda Binay, we need to leave the confusion of the maze, go up the observation deck, and survey the landscape and see where our leaders will bring us. Will they bring the country to a dead end? Or will they lead us out and into the fields of plenty?
