The Visitor by Graham Higson In the far corner of the ward a man was leaning over mums bed. His coat was similar to the one that I had given to charity after my dad died. Slowly he turned and came towards me. So many thoughts crashed into my mind. Now, lad, he said, smiling. I could barely speak. Have you come to take her? But I dont want her to go. Shes not ready! I heard the clatter of running footsteps. Nurses were kneeling over a man on the floor. His shoes looked like mine. Come on, son. Dad said. Itll be all right.
