The YWCA of Youngstown invites the community to join us in taking a “STAND AGAINST RACISM” on Friday, April 25, 2014. The event will be held 8:30 to 11 a.m. within the Kilcawley Center on the campus of Youngstown State University. The free event will feature a screening of the movie An Ordinary Hero: The True Story of Joan Trumpauer Mulholland with a discussion to follow with Ms. Mulholland who was raised in a southern, religious home by parents who were segregationists, however she took notice of “separate and unequal” at an early age. She became involved in non-violent protests of the Civil Rights Movement during college. She became the first white student to attend Tougaloo College. Ms. Mulholland was also involved in the planning and attended, the historic March on Washington in 1963 and worked alongside Medgar Evers.
