The amount of Sargassum (seaweed) on the beach this year is extremely heavy, creating banks several feet high in places! We have also received reports of sinkholes, formed when sand is washed out from underneath a mat of Sargassum, near the surf line. Beach driving conditions are still very poor, deteriorating as you continue southward. A four-wheel drive vehicle is needed. Please be careful when driving down island. (JM)
