The balance between competition and cooperation in human life - TopicsExpress

The balance between competition and cooperation in human life (including in organizations), will inevitably be dependent on the circumstances of the situation - where the number of variables will be unknown, and can change from minute to minute. So, plugging in calculus in hope of figuring out the exact balance (or even the general ratio) of competition to cooperation for each situation is nuts. It just cannot be useful in practice. Meanwhile, people who try to clarify the problem of competition and cooperation, may benefit from reading the best book of Alain de Botton: Status Anxiety. It comes to a very weak solution to the status anxiety problem (there are far better ones out there), but the description of the insidious conundrum is excellent. Here is the lazy chair video digest of the book done by de Botton himself: https://youtube/watch?v=t1MqJPHxy6g
