The body needs calories to thrive and function normally. Often times eating less is the prefered and taught procedure to losing weight. Eating less will allow for weight reduction but will not in most cases allow long term weight loss and improved health. Improved health meaning flexibility, strength, cardio, nerves, brain, heart and all systems of the body becoming healthier. Reduction in calories consumed will just cause the body to slow its metabolism or energy expenditure down. The perfect plan is to include resistance training to increase lean mass[ muscle]. Muscle is metabolically active and requires energy when used. Bone is also used and organs are metabollically active and require energy[ calories] to be used. The more active you are the more energy is used by your bodies systems. The more you need energy the better the body becomes at using the stored fat to provide the energy. So diet alone in many cases tells the body it is in a negative energy state and often times will cause the body to go in fat storing mode[starvation mode]
