“The chief characteristic which distinguishes the scientific method from other methods of acquiring knowledge is that scientists seek to let reality speak for itself … Scientific inquiry is generally intended to be as objective as possible in order to reduce biased interpretations of results.” Today’s post of Innovation 3130 – People Are Overly Confident in Their Own Knowledge, Despite Errors – provides yet another example of the justification for the scientific method. Human beings tend be subjectively biased and self-deceptive. Our innate subjective bias produces rave-worthy “what if” questions and novel sets of possibilities. Unfortunately, that same bias can be harmful to one’s self and others when attempting to answer those questions and explore those possibilities.
