The completeness of Islam أَْكَمَل .vs أَتََّم Allah swt says الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِى This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favour upon you... أتم and أكمل mean ‘to complete’. However there is a slight difference between the two. From the verb اأتم comes the word تمام which means ‘complete’. When something is تمام it is complete however there is room for more. For example, in this ayah Allah swt says He completed His favour/blessing on us. Does that mean that Allah swt can’t give us more blessings? No, of course not. So تََمام though it means ‘complete’ still allows room for more. From the verb اأكمل comes the word كمال which also means ‘complete’. However, this word means that there is no more room for any excess whatever the amount. So when Allah swt talks about the completeness of Islam He uses the word that means that no addition is required, no addition can happen, there is no room for addition. Islam covers all aspects of life, big and small, the religion is COMPLETE in all sense of the word. Islam provides solutions for mankind whether it be for our political, economical or societal problems. It is the neglect in the implementation of this complete deen which has plunged the world into the darkness we witness today. When Allah swt talks about His blessings, He uses the word that doesn’t put a limit on HIS blessings because there is no limit. Allahs blessings are endless.
