The contractor who put in our floors, and our dog run, and painted our living room is a great guy. Hes name is Lester. He has a 14 year old golden retriever named Opal (he calls her Opie). They are inseparable, Opie and Lester. He takes her on every job. About a month before I fell and broke my leg, we called on Lester to help us with a small bathroom project. He came over, checked things out, said hed be back the following week. We never heard from him. We called. He never returned our calls. Just yesterday, we found out why. Lester has been diagnosed with seven inoperable brain tumors. Hes not expected to live more than a few more weeks. Hes only in his fifties. He has grown kids, grandchildren. We love Lester. Hes a friend, not just a contractor. He doesnt want to see anyone. Hes in awful shape. But, we dont know if he has a home for Opie. We are sad for Lester and Opie. Ill be calling his brother today to see what we can do...we may be fostering a 14 year old grieving golden lab...We have five little dogs already, mostly because no one else wanted them. Not sure how we could fit in a big dog with all our little yapper-snapper dog-like creatures. But...if no one will take her, there is no way wed let Opie end up at a pound or shelter, either....what to do, what to do.
