The crowd was waiting for Jesus. He was everybody’s hope. Eventually He appeared, making slow progress with hangers on and people wanting to speak to him as a Rabbi teacher. Stooping, face hidden, she edged in the melee towards him till she was at arm’s length, thinking ‘If I can only touch his clothes I shall be better’. Quickly she pushed her arm towards him as people jostled her, and the swing of his long cloak caught her fingertips. At that moment power leaped across from Him. Incredible warmth surged through her, burned out the blockage to her happiness. A sense of relief and peace invaded her whole being. She could not doubt she was cured. The story is told by Luke (8:43-44). She had hit upon two secrets: the aura of life- energy in the presence of Jesus, and that it transfers itself to those who believe. Her nervous hand had made contact with omnipotence. Others had made the same discovery and experienced the same healing radiation in His presence. Mark 6:56 says ‘They laid the sick in the streets that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment and many as touched him were made perfectly whole’. Luke (5:17) records that in a house where He was ‘The power of the Lord was present to heal, like a Divine force-field, the power of the Kingdom of God breaking through on earth. The woman healed of an issue of blood obviously had no pre-conditioning, had learned no faith or prayer formulas nor received anything resembling seminary training in spiritual techniques. There are courses offered nowadays to develop strong faith like body building in a gymnasium. They would have been beyond this sick woman. She approached Jesus as a simple unsophisticated soul. So did everybody in the crowds Mark describes. Jesus said ‘Only believe!’ So she only believed, and they only believed. God bless you
