The daily meditations from St. Matthews are offered for the nourishment of your soul for a reason, to strengthen you to nourish others in your life through your care, kindness, generosity and honest effort. At St. Matthews we like to say, Faith is an action verb. God bless you today! That we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen (From the Confession on page 360 of the Book of Common Prayer) May these words stick to the wall of your soul daily. Seriously, it is not every day that you see a prayer petition that goes beyond asking God to do something for us. Dont get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with asking God for help or guidance or a million other things we need over the course of a lifetime. But this prayer, uttered during confession in the Episcopal Church, actually points us past simply asking God to fix something for ourselves. It says why, what we might do with that clean start. That we might delight in Gods will and walk in Gods ways ... from now on. They say that cheap grace is when we just keep coming back to God to fix our errors and guilts without conviction to make some personal changes toward our wholeness and health. I believe that to be true. This prayer provides perspective, it leads us a step forward toward a valuable grace. It invites a fresh trust in Gods care and guidance. Rev. Wm. Exner
