The disappearance of MAS Flight MH370 about 120 nautical miles off - TopicsExpress

The disappearance of MAS Flight MH370 about 120 nautical miles off the coast of Kota Baru in the early morning of Saturday Mar 8 was a shock to us. The news was relayed to me by a fellow Tzu Chi volunteer who asked me whether I could be ready in 2 hours time to join my other fellow volunteers in the TC relief team which will be flying off to Beijing to provide emotional support to the next of kin (NOK) of the passengers of the missing plane. It was not quite possible as we have to pack, assemble and travel to KLIA. Moreover my passport was not with me as it is now in the Chinese Embassy for the application of a visa to travel to Guilin next month for the MM Network leaders trip. 2 years ago, I had the opportunity to participate in a air crash simulation exercise conducted by MAS in KLIA and our Tzu Chi volunteers were invited to provide comments and feedbacks. Many agencies were also involved in the exercise. It was a invaluable experience as we had to go through the whole process as if it was really happening. I told myself then this will never happen in Malaysia as MAS has a very good track record. But this incident proved me wrong as anything can happen. My fellow Tzu Chi members from KL & Selangor are now involved in this unfortunate event and assisting MAS under a MOU signed between the airline and Tzu Chi in 2007. I am confident that they will be able to provide the best possible service as those selected have had the experience in attending to NOK of natural disasters in Malaysia and abroad. Lets us all PRAY FOR THE PASSENGERS & CREW OF MH370 for their safety and return and that some good things will come out soon. To the NOK our prayers are also for you. Be strong and have faith.
