The duties of a husband: - the husband should happily pay the woman her dowry. Almighty Allah says: And happily pay your women their dowry. (al Nissa). - he should arrange food, clothing and lodging for his wife. (Provide for her). - he should behave in a civilised manner towards his wife. The holy prophet Muhammad salallaho Alaihi wasallam said: The best amongst you is he who is best with his family. Hear this; I am the best with my family. (Ibn majah). (respect) -he should show love and not hatred towards his wife. Holy prophet Muhammad salallaho Alaihi wSallam said; no male believer should despise and have hatred for any female believer. If you find one thing annoying about a woman there will be something else which you like about her. (Love). - he should trust his wife and not doubt her without a valid reason (trust). -he should not tell others the secret of their bedroom. The holy prophet Muhammad salallaho Alaihi wasallam said: The worse of people in allahs eyes is he who goes to his wife, and then tells her private things to others, in order to embarrass her in front of others and to bring shame upon her. (Muslim) and your wife is your garment and you are her garment. (Hadith expressing privacy). -he should not be angered and upset by trivial things -he should NOT mention the beauty of other women in front of his wife. -he should not ask her to perform such tasks that are beyond her ability. -he should LOVINGLY bid her farewell before departing on a journey -he should bring her a present on his return. Ie Hadith: exchange gifts for it increases love. -he should not unjustly enforce things upon her. if at any times he is displeased by her bad manners, rudeness or temper, he should be patient. -he should not hit her without a just cause. Hadith - if he hits her, it should be with a small miswaak stick on her hand as mentioned by prophet salallaho Alaihi wasallam. -If they fall out over something, he should never even hasten in saying talaq (divorce). the holy prophet Muhammad salallaho Alaihi wasallam said: Amongst the permissible actions, the most disliked by Allah is divorce. (Abu dawood). -he should be good to his wife. the best of you are those who are best to their wife. Whoever follows these words of the prophet Muhammad salallaho Alaihi wasallam, will succeed.
