The famous and iconic lawyer Maitre Jacques Vergès Mansour who had defended among others the cause of independence of Algeria, died Thursday at the age of 88 years. Jacques Vergès was born on March 5, 1925 of a French father from Reunion island and a Vietnamese mother, who died when he was three years old. He lived in Prague from 1951 to 1954, before returning to Paris in late 1955 and will continue brilliant legal studies. Deeply involved in the war in Algeria, he became the lawyer for the FLN. He left the Communist Party in 1957, said it was "too cool" on this issue. In 1963, he married - his second wife - the FLN militant Djamila Bouhired, having saved from the death penalty.
