The faux patriotic Republican Party begins control of the U.S. Senate this week, complementing iron-clad Republican Party control in the House of Representatives. As a former Washington correspondent for newspapers and magazines, I can attest to the real destruction of traditional American values taking place where most of us see/hear little news--in the committees of each chamber. In the Senate, there are 14 permanent committees that you could consider major. Each of those committees will now be chaired by a Republican senator. I just performed some basic calculations. Would it surprise you to learn that all 14 chairs are Caucasian? Would it also surprise you to learn that their average age is 71? Hows that for representative democracy in this vast, varied nation of ours?
