The following is the story of my good friends, Marilyn Koren (grandmother) and her daughter, Jamie Sullivan (mother) of little angel, Delonna: thestarphoenix/life/Grandmother+dead+infant+protests+foster+care+practices/8473402/story.html Beyond gross lapses of judgement – as outlined in the article – further disturbing truth can be shared… During the apprehension of baby Delonna, Marilyn rushed to her daughter’s residence and offered to provide care to Delonna until (what was then perceived to be a temporary misunderstanding with authorities) could be straightened out. Instead of adhering to Policy by placing a child into kinship care, Marilyn was denied the right to take care of her granddaughter on the grounds that she had “prior involvement with social services.” What actually transpired many years in the past, Marilyn fled with her daughter, Jamie (then a child) from an abusive spouse and took temporary refuge within a woman’s shelter. That was solely the scope of the family’s involvement with the Agency. In acting responsibly, the family was penalized and the baby subsequently suffered the gravest result of that failure: The healthy baby girl died within 6 days of being placed into a stranger’s residence for foster custody. These types of attacks on victims must stop! The vulnerable are further harmed by systems that are intended to protect, not further victimize.
