The hoovering can be heard a few rooms away and the smell of breakfast being cooked is creeping along the corridor but the home I am writing this in is not mine but my mothers nursing home. For those of you following my mothers demise, i must report she is still alive. Her breathing is shallow and she is taking only ten breaths each minute but she continues to stubbornly cling to life. She can no longer speak or have any control of normal body functions but we do not know what she can hear and each of us talk to her presuming she can register our words but is just choosing to ignore our requests that she just let go. The staff I have spoken with this morning have said that they think today maybe the day she dies, possibly around late afternoon, but knowing my mother, she may confound us yet again.
